History

The Wagga Wagga Railway Station Museum opened on 1st June 2008. At the time current and former railway employees had collected over many years railway heritage items to eventually (hopefully) display to the community. We have continued to collect, restore and display photographs, documents and items to reflect our railway history and development of the Wagga Wagga and Riverina area.

The Wagga Wagga Rail Heritage Association (WWRHA) acts as custodian for a collection of items under partnership arrangements with Transport Heritage NSW and works collaboratively to ensure the care of objects identified as significant to state collections. WWRHA would benefit from increased financial support from Transport Heritage NSW to care for all of their collections and is advised to seek funding from the Transport Heritage Grants Program to action this- detail on this funding has been attached as an appendix along with other possible funding sources for collection care.

Volunteers at WWRHA undertake working bees on a regular basis to complete a range of collection and site management duties including cleaning and cataloguing. This work is ongoing.

All aspects of rail heritage from the proscribed region will be collected including material relating to social history and technological development and items may take the form of but be limited to

  • Photography,
  • Ephemera
  • Document and archival materials
  • Machinery and items relating to technological development.
